Vacant positions

The Plant Molecular Cell Biology Division of the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, University of Excellence, invites applications for a

PhD position (TV-L E13, 65%) “Evolutionary impact of small RNA-dependent gene expression in bryophytes during the molecular adaptation for life on land”

Our research focuses on the biogenesis and function of non-coding RNAs and the investigation of molecular mechanisms of abiotic stress adaptation. For further information, visit https://www.botanik.bio.lmu.de/forschung/frank/index.html. This project is funded by the German Research Foundation Priority Programme “MAdLand – Molecular Adaptation to Land: Plant Evolution to Change” (SPP 2237). The Priority Programme aims to unravel the genetic mechanisms underpinning the dramatic environmental adaptation to life conditions on land and the evolution of plant complexity through a novel comparative and functional evolutionary approach. We are seeking a highly motivated candidate who will work on the miRNA biogenesis that is crucial for stress adaptation in Physcomitrella patens (moss) and Marchantia polymorpha (liverwort).

The position is available for a 3-year period for applicants holding a relevant master's degree (or equivalent). Interested and motivated applicants should have a background in plant biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, or genetics. Proficient use of the English language for both oral and written communication is a must. While bioinformatics skills are not mandatory, they are appreciated.

We are located at the LMU Biocenter on the Campus Martinsried “Fascination Life Sciences” offering a well-equipped, interactive and stimulating research environment. We look forward to receiving your application in one single pdf file with complete, informative documents (motivation letter stating why you are interested in the topic, resume with education, language skills, bachelor and master´s degree thesis summaries, publication list and conference presentations and contact details of persons to be contacted for reference) by 31.12.2023 at the latest. Only applications containing all requested documents will be considered. The first review of applications will start immediately. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a Zoom interview. The job will be advertised until the position has been successfully filled.
